HAT Switch Caps
These are 3D printed and my own design.
Feature an OEM like fit compared to injection molded counterparts.
These were verified on my Virpil controls and will likely fit other HAT switch stems.
I made these to help solve the lack of gated HAT switches on Virpil products. These are designed to help aid in directional accuracy when using a HAT switch. These were meticulously designed to ensure they align with the motion of a typical HAT switch and that they are comfortable to use. The shapes chosen are more “aggressively” shaped to make the movement feel more natural.
2 locations require a specific HAT switch cap.
- The lower thumb HAT switch on the Virpil Constellation Alpha grips I tested can only accommodate the “Alternate 4-Way” style HAT cap without rubbing the side of the grip.
- The Virpil throttle HAT located in the middle of the encoder wheel requires a “Long Stem” version hat switch to be compatible with this location.

Descriptions of HAT Switch Caps Below:
- 2-Way Style Cap:
Inspired by the common “castle” shaped HAT switches, this one is modified from the typical castle style to suit a “2-Way” HAT switch instead.
- 4-Way Style Cap Long Stem:
Inspired by the common “castle” shaped HAT switches, this one features a bowl like center to aid in comfort while maintaining a high degree of directional accuracy in all 4 directions. This cap has a longer stem.
- 4-Way Style Cap:
Inspired by the common “castle” shaped HAT switches, this one features a bowl like center to aid in comfort while maintaining a high degree of directional accuracy in all 4 directions.
- Alternate 2-Way Style Cap:
Inspired by the “pyramid” style HAT switches, this one features a more aggressively shaped pyramid to aid in directional accuracy, further modified to be used on a 2-way style HAT switch.
- Alternate 4-Way Style Cap:
Inspired by the “pyramid” style HAT switches, this one features a more aggressively shaped pyramid to aid in directional accuracy.
- Just Flat Style Cap:
Convert a HAT switch into a push button with a simply flat cap. This cap does not aid in directional accuracy.
- Simple Concave Style Cap:
Convert a HAT switch into a push button with a simple concave shape. The concave geometry is rather deep and aggressive and this cap does still maintain the ability to do more than push button things but directional accuracy will vary from user to user or device to device.
